Event Focuses on Plan to Address Needs of Families, Children

Tuesday, Diane Denish continued the Families First Tour, visiting The Children's Garden, a childcare center and small business in Las Cruces. She was joined by several small-business owners, and families to discuss the unique challenges presented by this economy for working families.

During the course of the meeting, Diane outlined her commitment to create jobs and expand workforce training and early-childhood education. She also restated her strong opposition to Susana Martinez's plan to take money out of public schools through risky voucher or tax-credit programs.

Diane has long been a tireless advocate for New Mexico's children and families. She has worked to increase access to pre-k for 17,000 kids. She fought to keep kids healthy by through school-based health centers and additional P.E. teachers in schools.

As Governor, Diane Denish will:

* Fully fund public education;

* Expand early childhood education;

* Increase accountability in schools;

* Decrease the drop-out rate by redesigning the high-school experience and instituting the Diploma of Excellence at all schools;

* Transform schools to make sure that each and every student receives a purposeful education and has a clear path to work, further education opportunities or a career in the military.

"I am proud to continue our Families First Tour with a focus on the issues that matter to New Mexico's families, they need a governor who's on their side during these difficult times," Denish said. "I will spend every day as governor fighting to create jobs and standing up to the powerful interests who seek to strip the wealth from our families. Susana Martinez would roll-back the basic accountability measures that protect New Mexicans from pollution and predatory lenders. The stakes are too high to elect a Republican politician who wants to bring back the Bush-era anything goes policies that got our economy into this mess in the first place."

This was the third stop in the Families First Tour.
